Weapons

The art of Kajukenbo uses a variety of weapons.  Because of the different styles that make up this art, it is not uncommon to see traditional weapons such as, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Filipino, and Hawaiian.  The types of weapons may vary from school to school based on the instructor’s knowledge and skill.  In the Yuson Hawaiian Kenpo Branch, you will see the above and more.  Not only do we teach the traditional weapons, but we also teach urban weapons as well.  These are objects you would find in your environment that could be used as weapons.

Here are some of the weapons we use in our school:

 

TRADITIONAL WEAPONS

 

 BO This is a six foot staff used for blocking, striking, thrusting

Yawara (short club) is a traditional Japanese weapon. This stick is about 6-8 inches and has a rope attached so you can slip your finger through. This allows the martial artist to open their hands while they are holding the weapon. It can be used for blocking, striking, locking, and attacking pressure points on the body.
